Commitment to the Global Haemophilia Community

Baxter works internationally on a wide variety of haemophilia programmes.  These include donation of treatment to the developing world and the provision of supportive funding to global initiatives including the World Federation of Hemophilia's (WFH's) Global Alliance for Progress (GAP) programme which aims to address global disparities in haemophilia care.

GAP's progress

The ultimate goal of GAP is to increase the diagnosis and improve the treatment of people with haemophilia in up to 30 developing countries. Only four years into the programme, participating countries include: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Mexico, the Philippines, Russia and Thailand.

The care delivery system

Within this area of focus GAP has currently identified more than 5,000 new haemophilia patients and educated more than 2,000 healthcare professionals, regulators and haemophilia team members increasing the knowledge of haemophilia in participating countries.

Quality and quantity of treatment products

In terms of quality and quantity of treatment products GAP has assured broader access to a high standard of care through agreements among six countries and WFH, increasing resources.

Medical expertise and diagnosis

GAP has standardised treatment protocols by publishing Guidelines for the Management of Haemophilia, the first international guidelines for haemophilia care.  It has also helped to found and support a number of national haemophilia organisations.
